Introduction

Smørklett is a fine viewpoint north of - and above Leikanger. A marked forest path leads you to the top, from where you have a good view towards parts of Sognefjorden. The vertical gain is approx. 500 meters,  and the hike would definitely qualify as a nice family hike - if it hadn't been for the Dagmar hurricane. The forest is quite devastated in places.

There is a small cairn and a visitor's register at point 810m - 260m southwest of the high point.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The starting point for this route description is the place Leikanger by Sogndalsfjorden - a side arm of Sognefjorden. This is only a 20-25 minute drive from Sogndal, which has an airport.

Approx. 3,5km west of central Leikanger, turn north (N61.18239 E6.77469) on Valbrekkevegen road (signposted). Follow this road for 1km, then turn east (right) onto Eggjavegen (N61.18466 E6.75359). Follow this road for 2,4km until the road ends near Eggjane. Park here (N61.18997 E6.77215), without blocking for other cars that need to turn around.

Follow a forest path to the northwest. After 100 meters, the path forks. Go left. Follow a visible and marked (red paint) path up the forest, passing several ruins of old cabins along the way. You pass the last cabin (before Smørklett) at N61.19438 E6.76387, approx. 430 meters.

At N61.20513 E6.76782 - approx. 720 meters (above the forest), the path forks (signposted). Go right and follow a vague path in the direction of Smørklett. The path will lead you past Smørklett, so break away from the path when you see fit. The high point (N61.20984 E6.78478) is not marked, but you will find a small cairn and (possibly) a visitor's register at point 810m - 260 meters southwest of the high point.

Note that the hurricane "Dagmar" has left its marks inside the forest. In several places, you will need to go outside of the forest path.
