Turnerhytten - Rundemanen trail

Difficulty: Easy Click on thumbnail to see map
Risk: Low
Distance:
Time: 2-4 hours
Starting Elevation: Approx. 650m

Access:

Use the descriptions of the main Ulriken page to get to Turnerhytten hut.

The trail:

The Vidden trailhead begins (or ends, dependent on which direction you take) near the Turnerhytten hut. A cairn points towards the Vidden trail. The trail is cairned all the way, so even in bad weather your chances of crossing successfully, are good.

The trail passes the highest point - Haugsvarde, 673m, on the left-hand side, continues past Storevarden, 623m, descends into Borgaskardet pass before ascending up to Altfjellet, 637m. From Altfjellet, the trail runs down to lake Øvre Jordalsvatnet, continues to the top of Jordalsskardet pass, before it turns left down to Våkendalen. Where you meet the Våkendalen trail at the Rundemanen foothills, turn right and follow the trail all the way to the top.

There are numerous ways to get down from Rundemanen, and will be covered later.

Exit Notes:

Not too far after leaving Turnerhytten, you come to a signed trail junction where one trail goes off down to the left. This is the Isdalen valley trail, and will be covered later. In short, this trail takes you down to Svartediket dam, and is a nice "escape route" in case you want to abort your Vidden hike.

Borgaskaret is a major trail junction, where one trail runs east down towards Indre Arna. Another trail runs west down to Hardbakkadalen valley. Both trails will be covered later. I've only hiked Hardbakkadalen in winter, which was a major undertaking due to steep snow and lack of trail. I imagine this trail is a different story in summer. The Hardbakkadalen trail will also take you down to Svartediket dam.

After passing Altfjellet high point, on your way down towards lake Jordalsvatnet, you will see a signed trail junction, where you can hike over Grønetua (642m) and Vikinghutten hut, before coming down to the top of the Jordalsskardet pass. This is of course a detour, but gives you another summit and some great views into Åsane.
