Tronoberget
Saturday night, I met up with Anne Rudsengen (on her way home from Tronheim) in Lom. The plan was to ski Blåhø/Jetta (1617m) the next day. We rented an apartment at Fossheim Hotell, located in the centre of Lom. After lighting the fireplace, we enjoyed a few glasses of a nice red wine before heading down to the hotel restaurant to check out its famous cuisine. Crab soup, veal and Crème brûlée. Yeah!
Over the last 2 weeks I had been fighting a virus which had it's peak this Saturday night. I hardly slept at all, and Blåhø was the last thing on my mind when I got up Sunday morning. At breakfast, I told Anne that the project was off, and that I was on my way home. Before leaving, she wanted to take a look at the sandbanks down by Otta river, and I decided to come along. I have driven through Lom numerous times without noticing these sandbanks. The sandbanks were quite amazing. We walked 170m out on the river from the north shore before reaching melting water.
After walking about on the river, I became aware of the mountain on the north side of the river. Two ladies walked by and I made my inquiries. They told me that a trail began next to the bridge, and after checking the elevation on the GPS, Anne and I decided to take the trip up the mountain. I was fed up with feeling sick and tired, and knew that an easy walk would do me good. At least for a few hours.... We headed out 11am and enjoyed the well-worn trail and the open forest. I was actually quite surprised about the forest, which reminded me of a coastal forest. We reached the top 12:36pm, after a long and interesting talk with a philologist that we met close to the top. As we were still not above the tree line, Anne climbed the antenna for extended views. With a fresh weather report from Strynefjellet, it was time to head down. We were back at the trailhead 1:41pm - 2h:41m after heading out.

As expected, I felt quite OK while driving back home to western Norway. The exercise had done me good (for a while), although it was probably not exactly doctor's advice. The 3,5 hour drive seemed only like an hour's drive thanks to the soccer cup final between Ålesund and Molde. For the first time in history, Ålesund had reached the cup final and by the time I reached Nordfjordeid, Ålesund had won the final after a penalty shoot out. What tension! What drama!
