Introduction

Sveningen is a fairly large mountain located just northeast of Osøyro, by the Samnangerfjord. Although more and more hikers find their way up this mountain, Sveningen is still rather anonymous compared to Gullfjellet - the neighbour mountain and the highest in Bergen kommune. The Samnanger/Bergen kommune border runs across the summit.

The mountain resembles a horseshoe, with a long western ridge and a shorter eastern ridge. The main access points are Øvredalen and Brekkedalen. Despite many steep sides, the mountain offers several ways to the top. A few will be described on pages linked from this page.

Primary factor:

Sveningen (M711: 842m, Ø.K: 842,13m) has a primary factor of 519m towards the higher S. Gullfjellstoppen. The saddle is found on top of Brekkedalen valley. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), you cross the 325m contours on the high route, but not 320m. The saddle height has been interpolated to 323m

Søtefjellet (M711: 769m, Ø.K: 766,5m ~ 767m has a primary factor of 104m towards the higher Sveningen (842m) The saddle is found on the high ridge towards Sveningen. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), you cross the 665m contours on the high route, but not 660m. The saddle height has been interpolated to 663m.

Sauskolten (M711: 732m, Ø.K: 731,65m) has a primary factor of 54m towards the higher Søtefjellet (767m) The saddle is found on the high ridge towards Søtefjellet. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is defined as point 677,5m ~ 678m.

Rindafjellet (M711: 715m, Ø.K: -) has a primary factor of 32m towards the higher Sauskolten (732m) The saddle is found on the high ridge towards Sauskolten. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), you cross the 685m contours on the high route, but not 680m. The saddle height has been interpolated to 683m.

Midtsætersfjellet (M711: 604m, Ø.K: -) has a primary factor of 31m factor towards the higher Rindafjellet (715m) The saddle is found on the high ridge towards Rindafjellet. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), you cross the 575m contours on the high route, but not 570m. The saddle has been interpolated to 573m.
