The day after visiting Flistrahornet, Sandvikhornet and Venøya in Selje, I returned to the municipality of Selje - this time to visit Svartehornet. At least for starters... I had always (well, not literally...) assumed that Svartehornet would be a very quick hike. The summit was less than 2km west of the main road, and if there was a path then this would be one of the easiest hikes in 2012! I parked the car at Dalsbøen and headed out at noon. After crossing the river (on a bridge), I found a vague path, but lost it immediately. I sighed. I had a "wilderness" of bog and turfs between me and Svartehornet. This would definitely be an aggravating crossing of the meadow!
Sigh...
Once I reached the foothills of the mountains, things improved. The mountainside got steeper and steeper, but I was walking on firm grass! A couple of deer were taken by surprise. Other than that, this was an uneventful ascent. I reached the top 12:52pm - 52 minutes and 425 vertical meters after heading out. The reward was an excellent view - especially towards the mountains surrounding the big lakes. And towards Vestkapp (the west cape of Norway), of course.
Sætrevatnet and surrounding mountains
I returned the same way I came and was back at the trailhead 1:21pm. It was way too early to return home, so I drove to Honningsvågen to hike Stålet - a very fun trip!
