I enjoyed my sixpack after the nice Finnbunuten hike the day before. I spent half the night working with the digital photos, and didn't feel like a long hike this morning. I decided to continue my "Gullfjellet revisit tour" instead. The weather was good. It was cloudy and sunny at the same time, which is good weather on the west coast of Norway.
When I arrived lake Osavatnet, the parking was full. There were cars everywhere, and the fee booth was open. This is the kind of picture you would see during nice summer days. But October 6th? Clouds were looking like they would embrace Gullfjellet any time. Was there an event which I hadn't heard about? I expected this herd to head towards Redningshytten, so I quickly decided on Skåldalsfjellet. I expected to meet no one on my hike. I was wrong. I met one and saw two others. Still, that qualifies as "no one" compared to the masses of people heading towards Redningshytten.
I like Herlandsfjellet. A trail takes you to the top, and the views are excellent. I was convinced there was a good trail to Skåldalsfjellet. I had been there twice before, but this time I found no trail. I started to wonder if my memory served me wrong. After a very quick lunch on Skåldalsfjellet (some odd flies annoyed Troll and me to death), I decided to head straight down the mountain towards the farms below me. This turned out to be advanced "off-piste" hiking on slippery rock and grass in steep terrain. Eventually we reached the car, some 3 hours after departure.
