For a (yet) unknown reason, I enjoy conquering small islands in my vicinity, and so far, I have successfully climbed on-shore on Yksnøya, Bakarholmen, Furøya and Storøya/Måløya, Kjeholmen, Petterholmen, Fugleholmen and Stokksund. All reached in my rubber boat - The Hawk. If nothing else, it's certainly good exercise.

It's also an alternative to hiking in pouring rain. I feel it really doesn't matter if it's raining when I'm in a boat! And it was certainly raining this Sunday, and I proposed yet another magnificent trip in The Hawk to Anne. She didn't immediately go nuts about the idea, but then we remembered that we could (possibly) rent a canoe at Kjeldsund Ungdomssenter. Anne made a call, and the rental part was taken care of.

We picked up the canoe and headed towards Nykreimsholmen. Anne had previously been kayaking (the real way of traveling at sea (SIC) ) in this area, and was already familiar with the territory. The island was only 2,2km southwest of Kjeldsund - and it didn't take us long to get there. As much as we tried, we were unable to go faster than 7km/h.

I had forgotten to check on the map where the high point on the island was. As such, we had to explore to the east and to the west before we agreed on a high point. Very satisfied about yet another island top, we moved on.

We crossed the fjord and headed to the drain from Aursnesvatnet. At this point in time - all because of my GPS map - I thought that Aursnesvatnet was a salt water lake and that we could get to it. This was obviously wrong. Aursnesvatnet is a fresh water lake and the vertical drop is a stunning two meters! In other words, we're talking about a really, really small waterfall here...

After this nice stop, we headed back to Kjeldsund and took a quick detour to the old fish factory before calling it a day. The total distance was 8,2km in the canoe and 0,45km on the island.
