Norwegian Mountains, Møre og RomsdalLeirvågfjellet on the south ridge route, Sep 23 2008To the main Leirvågfjellet page (maps, route descriptions, etc.)
On June 12 2008, I decided it was high time that I got to the Leirvågen/Solavågen side of Leirvågfjellet. Carrying my (late) dog Troll, I headed off-trail up Leirvågdalen. This was a very cumbersome route that I don't recommend to anyone. Infact, I suspect that I missed a path further to my left. In any case, I gained the north ridge and had some easy scrambling up to the trigonometric point. I was determined to find a route down the south ridge, so I headed to the high point and had a look around. I immediately found the path. "There you go", I told Troll and pointed him down the trail. Slightly reluctant, he began his, at times steep, journey down the south ridge. On Sep 22 (and without a dog this time), I came back to see if I could find a roundtrip route. I headed up the south ridge from Leirvågen. On the top, I met a woman who pointed out an alternative descent route to me. There was an amazing light in the sky, and I was so happy that I chose to ignore an aching foot and get my butt out the door. On Sep 23, I did this route again. This time with a GPS, tracking my route..
