Our skiing route on Laupsnipa
Yet another trip up and down one of my favourite mountains. Have I ever had a disappointing trip to this mountain? Nope, I don't think so, and certainly not on this Tuesday afternoon. Anne knew Laupsnipa from our ski-trip in Feb 2010, and looked forward to a revisit. Even if she had skied Sletteheidane (542m) earlier in the day! There was much less snow on Laupsnipa now (compared to last year), but we reckoned it would be enough.
On the way to Laupsnipa
It was a bit strange; as said, there was not a lot of snow but it was wet and heavy and with a vague crust. It was just too much work to break trail on a ridge as steep as this one, so in order to make some progress, we had to ski on the grass on the very edge. We were curious about how the descent would be like. Heaven or hell...
Cornices
The trip up the ridge was as beautiful as ever, and on this afternoon, there was something extra special about the light. The combination of the fresh snow, the light and the razor sharp cornices portrayed a virgin landscape.
Winter joy
After a short, but nice stay on the summit, we discussed our descent route. Our hope was that the snow was of better quality the further away from the ridge we got, and this seemed to be true. In any case, there were no complaints about the snow until we were 100 vertical meters above Voldnes. The snow was still of good quality, but there was just too little of it...
