Norwegian Mountains, Møre og RomsdalLaupsnipa and Keipen, Jan 17 2009To the main Laupsnipa page (maps, route descriptions, other trip reports, etc.)
Laupsnipa is perhaps the Gurskøya top I enjoy the most. A forest road gets me going before getting on the ridge path which runs all the way to the summit. The upper part is a bit steep and particularly enjoyable when the snow is hard. The route up from Voldnes is approx. 2,2km and the vertical gain is 550m. If I just keep a steady pace, I ascend this mountain in 40 minutes. The hike on this Saturday was my 4th visit to the top, and my 2nd in daylight. The upper part of the mountain had hard snow on the ridge, which was a delight to walk on. After arriving on the summit, I decided to proceed to the Keipen point, 600m west of the cairn (which is not the high point). It was quite interesting to see the south side of Gurskøya island, and I promised to come back to check if there are any easy gullies that lead down to the shore. Not that you can't get to the shore from Voldnes, but I'm still looking for a new Trollråsa...
This was my 8th day with a serious back pain, caused by a combination of lifting furniture and vacuum cleaning. At 0 or 90 degree angles I was quite fine, and even while moving. But getting changed was tormenting. I was hoping for an unexpected fall which would "settle things", and two days later, I had a spectacular fall on the way down from Laupsnipa. Instantly, it felt better, but it didn't completely solve the issue. So now I have an appointment with the chiropractor.. |
