It was Saturday morning and our second day on Jøa island, visiting Hilde, Trond Arne and his family. The day before, we visited Moldvikfjellet - the highest point on the island - and spent Friday night partially on a pøbb and partially at the place where Trond Arne grew up. It was indeed an enjoyable evening and Saturday morning was correspondingly hard. So what do you do on a correspondingly hard morning? You relax of course! Take life easy. But not if you're an Aglen male. Then you have to go running in the hills! So first, Trond Arne and Pål Magnus and me ran to Pallan (145m). Then we ran to Holvikstorhaugen (126m) before returning to the farm. After 5km (sharp) I declared myself to be totally sober and wanted to go on a hike. Durmålfjellet (221m) seemed like a good candidate, and Trond Arne decided to join in. We headed out 11:11am from the pass just east of Dun and reached the top of this hill at 11:28, after an easy hike up the forest path. Durmålfjellet is possibly one of the best places to take Jøa into view - central as it is. After a little while, the rest of the bunch wanted us to return, so we all could go on a hike. We decided to hurry up...

Back at the farm, the rest were eager to go hiking. The plan was to hike across Dunafjellet and Ramnfjellet and descend to Nordsjøen - north of Brakstadvågen. We headed out from the trailhead east of Dun (and close to the Durmålfjellet trailhead) at 11:38am. The group counted 9 persons - 5 adults (as defined by the law) and 4 kids. We followed a nice path up the forest and had a nice view when we passed the tree line. We reached the cairn on Dunafjellet at 1:17pm. It was a good view from up here, but not necessarily better than the view from Durmålfjellet. Trond Arne pointed out the direction towards Aglen, where his family name comes from. The kids were way ahead of us and we had some catching up to do..
Arriving at Dunafjellet
Except for a visit to Romsskåla on the Nordland border, this was my first real meeting with the Trøndelag coastline. And both Anne and me enjoyed being here. We continued towards Ramnfjellet where we took a short break for lunch.
Towards Ramnfjellet
The descent from Ramnfjellet was a bit steep and fun. Someone had put up chains to hold on to, but it was indeed possible to cope without. In another steep section, I fell and did a whole rotation forward while filming. Fortunately, I landed on moss and not on rock...
Descending Ramnfjellet
Back down on the road, we continued towards Nordsjøen and the local pøbb. Nothing is like a cold beer after a good hike, and this particular one was 7km. The distance wasn't exactly mind-boggling, but we still felt we deserved the beer...
Pøbb at Nordsjøen
Afterwards, Trond and Hilde took us on another sightseeing trip on the island. First a visit to the Jernaldergård, then to the Torvmuseum before we went to one of the Aglen family "sanctuaries"
One of Jøa's many beautiful spots
The next morning, we sat course for western Norway in pouring rain. This marked the end of our (short) 2012 summer vacation, with one magnificent week in Montenegro and one week in northern Norway. Many thanks to Hilde and Trond Arne and their family for this very weekend! I look forward to return Jøa to visit the rest of the coastal tops!
Thanks to Trond Arne and Hilde for a great stay
