Introduction

Hornseten is located above the town of Fosnavåg in Herøy municipality. Several paths from the south and the east lead up to the top. If you visit this top with snow on the ground, there is a good chance that the trail has already been broken. This web page will describe the path from Berge.

From the top, you can see famous Ørsta and Volda tops such as Jønshornet, Romedalstinden, Kolåstinden, Åvasstinden, Vassdalstinden, Saudehornet, Liadalsnipa, Snøhornet, Eidskyrkja and Matøskja. Not bad for a 30 minute walk..

Primary factor:

Hornseten (Norge 1:50,000: 190m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 189,92m, UTM 32 V 326641 6916954) has a primary factor of 152m towards the higher parent mountain Igesundshetta (216m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 325823 6916108) is found near the Fosnavåg church. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the contours 35-40m, interpolated to 38m.

(all distances are approx. distances)

The nearest larger city is Ålesund. From Ålesund, follow highway E39 towards Bergen, and then RV61 towards Hareid. Take the Sulesund - Hareid ferry.

Entering Hareid, you pass through a roundabout. Follow RV61 for 16,8Km (you pass Ulsteinvik along the way). In the RV653/RV61 junction, turn right towards Måløy/Fosnavåg. Soon after you enter Gurskøya island, stay on RV654 (Fosnavåg) and don't follow RV61 towards Måløy. 11,5Km after the 654/61 junction, you reach the Moldtustranda/Fosnavåg junction. Turn right. Proceed 5,5Km to the Runde/Fosnavåg - Torvik junction. Turn left. 1,3Km later, you pass the Runde/Leine junction, and 1,4Km after this junction, turn right towards Bergslia.

After 100m, turn right. Continue 300m upwards then make a right in a fork. Continue 300m to the trail head by the Tussa building.

The route

From Tussa, follow a path in the northwest direction. The path follows a small valley and you have a small forest on your right-hand side. At the end of the valley (above Fosnavåg), turn right into the forest (signed Hornseten). Follow the path all the way to the top of Hornseten.
