(all distances are approx. distances)
The starting point for this route description is Gjendeosen (N61.49520 E8.80977) just west of highway RV51. This road is not open during winter and opens around Easter time. Check vegvesen.no for details. From RV51, follow the signpost towards Gjendesheim and follow this road to its end. Find parking (fee) at Gjendeosen.
The route
This route requires safe ice on Lake Gjende. Talk to the people at the local kiosk at Gjendeosen to get the latest update. The crossing only takes a couple of minutes. Head towards Gjendehøe's north ridge. If the ridge is free of snow, this is a slightly steep, yet easy hike. If there is snow on the ridge, then conditions may vary from easy to challenging (ice-axe/crampons required)
The summit (N61.48693 E8.79867) is marked by a medium-sized cairn. There are several cairns, which may be confusing in fog.
