Anne and me decided that it would be cool to welcome 2012 from a mountain top. Originally, the plan was Melshornet above Hareid, then the plan got changed to Hasundhornet above Ulsteinvik, and in the very last minute, we settled for Høgåsen outside Ulsteinvik.

We went up around noon to put the tent up. It was going to be windy evening, and I didn't feel like looking for place to put up the tent and fight the wind and darkness while assembling it. We found a most excellent spot near the very summit, and after some minor struggles the tent was up. The view towards Ulsteinvik was awesome! We then went back home to prepare the evening.

We returned to Høgåsen 8:20pm and settled in. As there was little left to do (the food had already been prepared), we allowed ourselves to doze off for a little while. But all of a sudden, there was all sorts of noise outside the tent! It turned out to be our friends Hilde, Trond Arne and their kids, making the trip to the top to offer us Champagne - served in fine glasses! What a most enjoyable surprise!

A few minutes later, it started to rain and the wind was picking up. The visitors headed back down, and Anne started warming up dinner. The Champagne sure made wonders to our appetite! And Anne never, ever  disappoints in the kitchen!

And finally, the time was here - midnight and the year 2012. A new year of opportunities. "Blanke ark og fargestifter til". The works. Happy new year!

A group of youngsters had gathered on top and the view towards Ulsteinvik was pretty good (the forecast was not so good). However, a strong wind didn't allow for good pictures. After a little while, Anne and me were once more alone on the top and we fell quickly asleep.

I woke up to a new year, blanke ark, fargestifter, new opportunities and a splitting headache. This time, I couldn't blame the Champagne or the wine -  just a bad combination of a cold floor and an unfortunate sleeping position. My back needed a visit at the chiropractor's. Quickly! But first, we would enjoy a nice breakfast at Lena and Terje's place across the bay. The breakfast invitation was for 11am, and by 10:30am, the tent was down.

It was a altogether a fun way to begin a new year!
