Høgåsen is the high point on the island Dimna, or Dimnøya as the locals say. The top is very popular amongst the island citizens, and a number of paths lead to and from Høgåsen, also offering round trips including the neighbouring tops Svarane, Stemnehornet and Blåfjellet.
Dimna/Dimnøya is the largest island in Ulstein kommune, looking aside from the Hareidlandet island itself. There is road access via bridge, and the main road runs all around the island. Another independent top - Røyrafjellet - is found on the south/southwest side of the island, near Ertesvåg.
This page will describe a round trip hike from the place Sundgot, and also recommend a shorter route from near Kleven Verft.
Høgåsen (Norge 1:50,000: 240m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 240,04m, UTM 32 V 335547 6914063) has a primary factor of 240m, being the Dimna island high point.
Personal GPS measurement read 237m (on ground) as average over a 5-minute period.

Access
From Ålesund, follow highway E39 towards Bergen, and then RV61 towards Hareid. Take the Sulesund - Hareid ferry and follow RV61 (roughly) 3Km towards Ulsteinvik. At the roundabout junction outside Ulsteinvik, turn left and follow RV61 southbound for additional 1,4Km.
Turn right towards "Dimna", drive 1,4Km to the "Ertesvåg/Ytre Dimna" junction, and turn left towards Ertesvåg. Drive 900m and turn right towards "Idrettsanlegg". Follow this road 300m and park just below the soccer field.
The route
Walk along the soccer field on the south side, and follow a narrow path in the northeast direction, until you join a forest road. Follow this road upwards until you enter the forest. Continue on forest path from here, with Høgåsen up to your right. The path up to the top has been cut through dense bush/forest. The top is marked by a triangulation point.
Descend from the top, and continue westbound on the ridge, down to boggy meadows southeast of Svarane and northeast of Stemnehornet. The path eventually becomes a road and takes you back down to the soccer field. Turn right in a road junction before you arrive at the trailhead.
A shorter route
At the "Ertesvåg/Ytre Dimna" junction, turn right towards Ytre Dimna. Drive 250m and turn left when you see the "Åsen" sign. 400m up the road, begins the forest road mentioned above. This route is marked "Alt. trailhead" on the map and on the picture on top of this page.
