Introduction

While Blakstadfjellet is a forest top, it is still the northernmost independent top on the Rånahalvøya peninsula. Across a meadow, to the south, the massive mountain Skopphornet makes Blakstadfjellet seem rather small. There are no very pronounced trails on Blakstadfjellet. You'll find paths here and there, probably maintained by the local deer.

This forest hill can either be reached from Ikornes (east) or Tudalen (west). This web page describes the shortest route to the highest point (Breinakken), and also mentions an option for a round trip hike.

The road to Tudalen is not marked on all maps, but takes you up to 130m elevation. The high point (Breinakken) is 425m to the northeast, but steep cliffs prevents a direct access.  The area ahead of you is a commonly used pasture. There are also plans to make a golf course up here. The local paintball club also seem to find recreation up here...

Primary factor:

Blakstadfjellet (Norge 1:50,000: 292m, Økonomisk Kartverk.: Highest contour is 295m, optimistically interpolated to 297m, UTM 32 V 370313 6920397) has a primary factor of 119m towards the higher parent Skopphornet (1226m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 370373 6919205) is found between on a meadow between the two tops. Ref.  Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the range 175-180m, interpolated to 178m.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

From Ålesund, follow highway E39 towards Bergen, and then highway RV60 (Stranda) to the Magerholm - Ørsneset ferry (7,9Km). This ferry runs quite often; every 20 minutes in the busy hours of the day.

From Ørsneset, drive RV60 to the Hundeidvik/Ikornes junction south of Sykkylven (4Km). Drive on toll bridge across Sykkylvsfjorden (fee is NOK 31,- for passenger cars per November 2007). At the upcoming roundabout (1,1Km), follow signs to Hundeidvik and drive 6Km.

You now have Lake Tuvatnet to your right, the road is curving slightly to the right and you have an uphill ahead of you. Turn sharp left onto a gravel road. Follow this road 1,1Km up to the parking.

The route

Look directly towards the distinct top of Breinakken, 400m(+) to the northeast. Further to the right, you might see a valley. You'll ascend this valley and turn gradually to the left when the terrain permits. You should be able to follow a path that runs on the left-hand side of a creek in this valley. This path leads to the top.

In order to get to this valley, follow the road towards the pasture. When it ends, aim for the fence and the rest should be obvious.

If you want to extend your hike, then head eastbound and visit as many humps as you will on this forest ridge. At any time, you can descend to the south. Unfortunately, wet and boggy ground between Blakstadfjellet and Skopphornet can make the return trip less than fun.
