Nesset municipality
is a massive mountain region, and the peaks are mainly
located around Lake Eikedalsvatnet and the
Eresfjorden/Langfjorden. Nesset borders
to Rauma, Molde, Gjemnes, Tingvoll, Surnadal (Møre og
Romsdal) and Lesja (Oppland), and Eidsvåg is the administrative centre.
The mountains surrounding Lake
Eikedalsvatnet are spectacular. Juratind/Gjuratind is
perhaps the most characteristic mountain, with its distinct
"teat/nipple". Hoemtinden is also a characteristic
top with a distinct summit, but this peak is not easily seen
from many angles, as the Sjøvdøla-Hauduken massif covers
most of Hoemtinden. Kleneggen (fairly easy accessible
from the Bjorli side) is the only independent mountain
exceeding 1900m, and is one of the 6 Møre og Romsdal peaks
whose primary factor exceeds 1100m.
Skjorta,
Kyrkjetaket and Kjøvskartinden offer some of the
best slopes for Telemark in this county. while huge
mountains such as Sjøvdøla, Fløtatinden,
Vikesoksa and Slotthøa are landmarks surrounding
Eikedalsvatnet.
