Midsund
municipality spans the islands Dryna, Midøya, Tautra,
Magerøya and Otrøya, and borders to Sandøy, Aukra, Molde,
Vestnes and Haram kommuner. The village of Midsund is the
municipality's administrative centre.
Otrøya is the largest mountain
region with 11 independent
tops exceeding 500m elevation. The average elevation of
these 11 tops is 638m. None of the Midsund peaks are difficult
on their easiest routes. Oppstadhornet is the highest peak,
Bløkallen on Midøya is perhaps the most characteristic peak,
and the Rørsethornet - Ræstadhornet traverse offers an airy
and interesting hike. As nearly all mountains fall steep
down into the sea, there are plenty of interesting off-trail
routes as well.
