Big Rocks in Matresdalen, Nov 5 2005

Introduction

The Matresdalen valley (from Matre by Masfjorden and along the way towards Stordalen and Ortnevik) has dozens of huge rocks that offer a climbing challenge. The rocks are found on the west side of the road, between the road and the mountain walls above. One of these rocks are named "Kyrkjesteinen" (Økonomisk Kartverk), but I don't know which one.

The neat thing about this valley is that you can just park and climb. If one rock doesn't fit you, just move on to the next. You may also go on a "rock safari", locating some giant rocks that are not so easily seen from the road.
