TOP 10 TRIPS 2007

TOP20 (ALL)  2009  2008  2007  2006  2005  westcoastpeaks

2007 was sort of a "mediocre" year for me. I had three longer "down" periods; inflammation in a foot, a stommach virus and the flu. In addition, the summer and autumn weather was really shitty, and the number of on-duty days (where I'm not able to visit new mountains), were increased.

While the dog is getting old and number of "babysitters" are scarce, there were no trips abroad in 2007. Still, I am quite content about the year. Goals, such as Jostedalsbreen, Stetind and Lodalskåpa came true. In addition, very fine mountains such as Breitinden, Hundatinden, Vassdalstinden, Brekketinden were visited. Two trips to northern Norway were also highly valued. In the local region, I had many nice trips to Trollråsa on Sukkertoppen and Storhornet on Godøya.

On the personal side, trying to become a mountain man, two things stood out. My head for heights and skiing (downhill) abilities have certainly improved. In addition, never have I been on so many walks/trips with others as in 2007. This is perhaps the most valuable experience I bring on from 2007.

Among many wonderful trips, these were the top 10 trips in 2007:

1. "Josten på langs"   Jostedalsbreen, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway Apr 2007
Suphellenipa (picture) represents the perfect ending to this 3-day adventure across "the roof" of southern Norway - Jostedalsbreen. This was a company trip, 9 colleagues + 1 guide. We headed up via Erdalen and Småttene and descended via Flatbrehytta to Fjærland. Three sunny days and perfect skiing conditions.
2. Stetind 1394m Tysfjord, Norland Jul 2007
My main goal for 2007 was another Norwegian peak of the finest sort. With 3 guides, Torill Berg and I climbed the normal route (via Halls Fortopp) together with 8 other clients. The fog lifted as we reached the summit and we had a beautiful day on top. Easy climbing, although the crux below Mysosten required focus. The rest of the week, we visited tops in the Tysfjord and Narvik regions. A very, very memorable holiday week.
3. Lodalskåpa 2083m Jostedalsbreen, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway Aug 2007
Epic hike from Bødalsæter to the highest peak on Jostedalsbreen glacier. Hiking mates were Torbjørn Frøystein and Terje Bergset
4. Store Brekketind 1578m Sunnmørsalpene, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Jul 2007
One of the finest peaks in the Sunnmørsalpene mountain range. Torill, Inka, Hildegunn, Lars Jarle, Leif-Erling,  Nils-Idar and I summited Store and Lille Brekketind on a gorgeous day without the use of rope on the mountain (we used rope across the glacier).
5. Breitinden 1797m Romsdalsalpene, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Jun 2007
Yet another great summer-skiing adventure in the high Rauma mountains. Odd Arne, Geir, Svein and I skied this mountain from Trollstigen, also visiting Søndre Trolltind along the way. It was just as great as the Finnan trip one year earlier. I have difficulties rating one over the other.
6. Hundatinden 1234m Sunnmørsalpene, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Jul 2007
Hundatinden is one of the most challenging of the Sykkylven mountains. That is, if you want to climb the highest of the two summits. Torill, Olav, Terje and I summited this top without the use of ropes, on a rain and foggy day. Even getting onto the mountain was a small struggle, since we didn't find (or understand) the normal ascent route.
7. Vassdalstinden 1277m Sunnmørsalpene, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Aug 2007
Vassdalstinden is one of the most beautiful peaks in the Sunnmørsalpene mountain range, steep and wild on all sides. Matt Snape and I visited this mountain in rain and fog, and another trip up this mountain is certainly on the agenda for 2008.
8. Snøhornet 1309m Sunnmørsalpene, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Feb 2007
An unforgettable ski-trip with Svein Myhre in the Ørsta/Volda mountain region. Perfect snow, perfect light, everything .. just perfect.
9. Ådalstinden 1433m Stordal, Møre og Romsdal, Norway Dec 2007
A perfect end to 2007. With Hildegunn (and eventually) Svein, we skied up this mountain Ådalstinden on one of the finest days in December. The view was unforgettable.
10. Melen 807m Vestnes Møre og Romsdal, Norway Sep/Dec 2007
Melen's north ridge is one of the most fun ridge walks in the Ørskog/Vestnes region, and I had two wonderful trips to this mountain. First an unforgettable traverse with Torill Berg in September, then a wonderful winter ascent in  December with Arngeir Syversen.
