Extremely wet after having visited Åsnakken in Vestnes and Høgåsen in Skodje on this rainy Sunday, I arrived the Vassberget foothills. This would be the last top in the region that I was about to complete.
I had a choice between following tractor roads up from the Skodje side, or go off-trail in the forest from the north side. I chose the off-trail route, and left the car 12:51PM. Initially, I followed a tractor road (under construction or "face-lift") that (ref. the map) seemed to go all the way to Skodje. Thus, I left this road after a couple of muddy, hundred meters, and headed off-trail up the northeast ridge.
A branch of the tractor road was under construction on the lower part of the ridge, but then I entered true forest, and could enjoy the forest silence. It had stopped raining, and there were fractions of blue sky above. It was simply a matter of following the ridge upwards until I reached a point that just HAD to be the high point (13:20PM). The GPS concluded that the elevation was correct. Since there were no views, I turned around and headed back down after letting the GPS do its measurements. I was back at the car 13:41PM and looked forward to a warm house and dry clothes back in Ålesund.
