Vassberget is located directly above the place Skodje. Due to the higher and much more popular neighbour Nihusen, it is a reasonable assumption that you will find very few visitors on Vassberget. There may be paths leading up from Skodje, but this page will describe an off-trail route up the northeast ridge.
The views from the top are limited, because of the forest. Per Nov. 2006, a tractor road was under construction on the northeast ridge.
On the Norge 1:50,000 map, this forest hill is named Vassberget. Økonomisk Kartverk refers to the high point as Gildrehaugen, where Vassberget seems to be side facing Lake Fyllingsvatnet.
Vassberget (Norge 1:50,000: 253m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 252,58m, UTM 32 V 382601 6933006) has a primary factor of 125m towards the higher parent Haugfjellet (368m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 383108 6932364) is found SE of Vassberget and SW of Litletjørna. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the range 125-130m, interpolated to 128m.
Personal GPS measurement read 255m (on ground) as average over a 5-minute period.

The trails described below are not necessarily the *easiest* trails to this mountain.
Fyllingsvatnet - Vassberget
From Ålesund, follow highway E136->E39 towards Åndalsnes. From the E16/E39/Olsvika roundabout near Breivka, follow E39 13,2Km. Turn left onto highway RV661 (Skodje/Brattvåg/Vatne). Pay toll at an unmanned toll booth (coins + credit cards, AutoPass). Cross the fjord across a bridge, then turn left towards "Skodje". Drive approx. 3,9Km to Skodje and turn left towards "Engesetdal".
Follow this road 2,5Km and locate a tractor road (under construction per Nov 2006) on your right-hand side. Park here.
There is also a toll-free road to Skodje, approx. 20Km from the E16/E39/Olsvika roundabout mentioned above. From this junction, the distance to Skodje, and the Engesetdal road is approx. 2,5Km.
Follow the tractor road 200-300m eastbound, then go off-trail and follow the forest ridge upwards. You may see vague paths/tracks here and there and the forest is overall easy to travel. The high point is not marked, but should be easy to recognize if there is no fog. Descend your ascent route.
Per Nov. 2006, a tractor road branch was under construction on the northeast ridge, and because of this, this lower section of the forest was a bit cumbersome.
