Haugsvarde is the highest point on the eastern Byfjellene massif. Easiest approach is from Ulriken via Turnerhytten hut, if you choose to ride the cable car to Ulriken. In addition, there are several trails leading to Haugsvarde, including the one from Sedalen, which is described here.
Haugsvarde lies just east of the cairned trail from Ulriken to Rundemanen, also known as Vidden. Haugsvarde is not significantly higher than the Vidden plateau, and is only seen from a few angles. Coming from Sedalen, you won't see Haugsvarde before you are at its foothills. From Vidden, Haugsvarde is a modest hill further to the east.

Time: | 2-4 hours round-trip | |
Starting Elevation: | Approx. 150m |
Access:
On highway 580, between Landås and Paradis, exit towards Sedalen at Birkelundstoppen (highest point on 580). Continue on the Sedalen road for xxKm (stay right in the junction after the traffic lights), and exit left onto a small one-lane road that takes you to the Sedalen trailhead. You will find parking there. On sunny Sundays, this parking may be crowded.
The trail:
The trail begins as a forest road, curving upwards towards the Sedalen water reservoirs. Just after the first sign (warning about not polluting the drinking water reservoirs), follow a small road to the right. This road leads to a small bridge, just below the outlet from the upper reservoir. From here, follow the trail that heads towards the south end of Vasslifjellet, which you see straight ahead.
Follow the trail up the Vasslifjellet ridge, all the way to the upper plateau. Then, continue in the north-east direction. You will see a number of huts. One trail leads to the Turnerhytten hut, and Haugsvarde is just north-east of this hut.
