Introduction

Svartløkfjellet is Lebergsfjellet's lower neighbour on Ørskogfjellet. Nearly every point on Ørskogfjellet is a fine viewpoint, and Svartløkfjellet is no exception. This is most likely not one of the most visited mountains in this region, a conclusion to be drawn, based on the vague path.

The obvious access routes run from Liasætra (west) and from Ørskogfjellet (east). In distance, the routes are (roughly) equally long. This web-page describes a route from Liasætra. An option for a roundtrip, is to start from Liasætra, go up to Svartløkfjellet, descend Bjørnskaret, follow a road down to Svarteløken, and on road back to Liasætra. According to the map, a short section between Svarteløken and Liasætra lacks a road, but road work was in progress per Sep 2006.

Primary factor:

Svartløkfjellet (Norge 1:50,000: 562m, Økonomisk Kartverk: 561,59m, UTM 32 V 390488 6934452) has a primary factor of 98m towards the higher parent mountain Lebergsfjellet (628m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 390575 6933918) is found on a meadow between the two tops.. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle can be defined as the fixed point 464m.

Turn left here, and then immediately right before you turn left on "Solnørdalvelgen" road. Follow this road 2,9Km (from highway E39) and turn right onto the road towards Liasætra (signed). Alternative access:

From Ålesund, follow highway E136->E39 towards Åndalsnes. From the E136/E39/Olsvika roundabout near Breivka, follow E39 20,2Km to the "Skodje" junction. Turn left and drive 1Km.Turn right towards Solnørdal, drive 5,5Km (on gravel road) and turn left towards Liasætra. See above for further road instructions.

The route

From the parking at road end, walk approx. 50m and look for a VAGUE path that runs into the forest on your right hand side. The path climbs eastbound up the forest towards Kamben. From Kamben, the path follows the ridge all the way to the top. If you lose the path in the lower forest, just head upwards towards the ridge, and you will gain the path on the ridge.

You pass two cairns (32 V 389400 6934329, 490m and 32 V 389682 6934365, 530m) before you cross the long summit ridge. The high point (unmarked) is found 20m east of the summit cairn (32 V 390470 6934449).

Descend your ascent route, or consider the roundtrip suggested in the introduction section on this page.
