The amazing mid-September high pressure just seemed to go on and on. My week-end plans were already in-the-box, but there would be opportunity for a friday-evening walk before the week-end. I chose to (finally) visit S. Broren on Hareidlandet, the only independent top (primary factor > 100m) on Hareidlandet that I hadn't yet visited.
My colleague Bernhard gave me good advices about the trail, and I parked along RV61 after being "chased" away from the houses by Nedre Rise. Apparently, this was a popular trailhead, and the house owners could no longer stand the traffic. My dog "Troll" and I headed out from the parking 15:18PM. The flexi-time account always come in handy on fine evenings, and although a bit hazy, this was certainly a fine evening.
Troll has a problem about never-ending forest roads, but today, he was in walking mood. But not without certain psychology "skills" from my side. He was still walking when the forest road ended and he could satisfy his thirst in the nearby stream. We passed Risesætra and followed a vague path to a cabin just below Mosvarden. I carried him the remaining 60 vertical meters up to Mosvarden high point, which we reached 16:25PM. From Mosvarden, I had Brørene in clear view, as well as a heap of fine Ørsta peaks.
We proceed towards Brørene, crossed the eastern hump, the middle hump and arrived the high point 17:05PM. Even with a hazy view, and the sun against from the south, the views were still excellent. S. Broren was the "missing piece" for me on Hareidlandet. By now, I had seen most of the island, although the northern coastline needed further exploration.
I considered descending down to Mosvatnet, but given the upcoming week-end tasks (Slogen and Jakta), I decided to preserve energy. Hence, we descended our ascent route, except for a short-cut, bypassing Mosvarden. We were back at the car 18:25PM. An 11Km roundtrip had come to its end, and except for the 60 vertical meters below Mosvarden, Troll walked all the way. Little did he know that within the next two days, he would be on top of the fine summits of Jakta and Slogen.
