Introduction

There is a vast mountain region east of highway E6 between Svenningdal and Mosjøen. Storfinnkneet, Visttindan, Storklumpen (Blåfjellet), Breidvasstinden, Snøfjelltinden, Anddalshatten and Høyholmstindane are among the more prominent mountains here. Part of this area can be considered wilderness, and the Lomsdalen valley is renowned for its beauty.

Øyrtinden is found southeast in the region, rising tall above Langfjorden - one of the Velfjorden arms. The mountain is frequently on the Fjelltrimmen list of mountains (annual list of 10 mountains that people are encouraged to visit), and has - subsequently - been properly marked. Langfjorden is also the normal starting point.

Øyrtinden offers absolutely no difficulties or challenges on the normal route. On a day-hike, you can also reach Tettingsfjellet, Nordre & Søre Snøfjellet, and possibly also Breidvasstinden from its summit. You can also head north towards Dalaunfjellet, Engelvikfjellet and Råkfjellet. The coastal view is superb, and the inland view covers all of the tops mentioned in the introduction - as well as Heilhornet in Bindal.

Thanks to the easy terrain and the marked route, Øyrtinden has become a very popular mountain. Most hikers will come a long way up the mountain within 90 minutes. And most people will descend their ascent route, but there are a couple of interesting variations; one towards Svartvatnet and west to the power station by Langfjordøyra.

Follow the path upwards. In summer, the grass is high, and if it's wet - you'll be wet. You reach a meadow after approx. 300 metres. Turn left gradually and follow the path that runs between the forest ridge to your left and the power line. This path leads you up to the pass between this ridge (Øyrhatten) and Øyrtinden's west ridge.

Turn right and follow the ridge all the way up to the summit. The lower part of this ridge is called Stakkstongfjellet. Øyrtinden's high point is found 22m northeast of the summit cairn.
