This gorgeous autumn afternoon was calling out on me, and was impossible to ignore. I had originally planned to visit Middagsfjellet on skis later this year, but as I had visited most of the nearby mountains on skis, I decided that some autumn pictures were called for.
The dog ("Troll") and I left the Tomrereset trailhead 16:20PM. I knew this trailhead from my previous hike to Varden. I decided to carry him up the mountain, as I wanted to reach the top before the autumn colors turned into shades before sunset.
After stopping mostly for pictures, I reached the summit 17:25PM. Along the way, I passed a woman with 2 kids, looking for their dad. Camuflached, somewhere. Minutes before I passed them, I had relieved myself of superfluous liquids, and now I just hoped that I hadn't peed on their dad.
After summit pictures, I decided to hike down Skarsegga. I found it more fun (and from an overall perspective - safer) to scramble the ridge, rather than follow the vague path in the mountainside. At least the ridge offered handholds, and the scrambling was easy. Further down, the ridge broadened, and eventually I found myself in the same spot as on Feb 2 2006, 11:08AM, when Petter and I skied to this saddle and walked Trolltinden on foot. Now that this ridge was "under control", I returned up to the summit and let Troll out of the backpack.
We took GOOD time down the mountain. There were a lot of potential "moments" that could be captured onto disc, and more importantly, just a very, very nice afternoon. Troll went back and forth, forth and back, "sucking" in every smell this mountain had to offer. We were back at the trailhead 18:50PM.
