Introduction

Lundsfjellet and Nøta are two small forest hills, located near Vågstranda by Romsdalsfjorden, approx. 18km northwest of Åndalsnes. A marked path takes you to Vetehaugen - the top of Lundsfjellet, while you can follow a faint track to the top of Nøta. None of the tops offer panoramic views (because of the forest), but chances are good that you'll still enjoy the forest hike. The entire Lundsfjellet is a nature preserve, and Lundsfjellet and Nøta are the two lowest independent mountains (primary factor > 100m) in Rauma.

It seems that Lundsfjellet is the common name for this forest hill with the tops Lundsfjellet, Vetehaugen and Glas-Skallen. Vetehaugen is the highest top. Nøta is a different forest hill, located on the south side of the Brudeskaret pass.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The nearest larger city is Ålesund. From Ålesund, follow highway E136->E39 eastbound towards Åndalsnes. You pass the place Sjøholt, drive across Ørskogfjellet, down Skorgedalen valley to the Molde/Åndalsnes junction just before you reach Tresfjorden.

Turn right onto highway E136 towards Åndalsnes, drive around the Tresfjorden bay, pass the northern tip of the peninsula and drive until you see the second Vågstranda sign. This is 32,7Km from where you left E39 and turned right towards Åndalsnes. Turn left towards Vågstranda and drive 500m. Turn right onto a smaller road with a "dead-end" sign. Drive this road 500m, and park along the road near a road junction.

The route

Head up the road towards the nearest farm, and locate a forest road loop behind the barn. Turn left, and follow the forest road until you reach a 4-way junction. Go straight ahead (the road to the right runs towards Nøta) and follow the forest road to the top of the hill (Brudeskaret pass).

From the pass, turn left and follow a marked path (red paint on rocks and trees) and continue up the steep forest. You'll pass Glas-skallen (the first top), then descend a little before arriving on Vetehaugen. The highest point seems to be a huge rock. You'll also a sign saying "Vetehaugen".

Descend your ascent route, or continue northwest along the forest ridge. Apparently, the path continues. Descend to Lundsbø and follow the road back to the trail head.

Same as for Vetehaugen. See above.

The route

Head up the road towards the nearest farm, and locate a forest road loop behind the barn. Turn right and follow the forest road 200m until the road seem to end, and you see a gate further up the hill. Pass through this gate, turn left and follow a trail up to the forest road mentioned in the Lundsfjellet description above. Turn right and follow the road up to a pass. You're now at the foot of Nøta. Locate a faint track that follows the ridge upwards. The top of Nøta is not marked, but unless there is fog, it's fairly easy to locate the high point on the flat summit plateau.
