Kvitenuten is located on the north side of Røldalsfjellet. The ascent route from the old road across Røldalsfjellet isn't difficult, but requires some route finding. Once on the mountain - if you continue northeast, there's nothing stopping you before you're on Hardangervidda.
The ascent up the mountain is overall rugged, and is "best suited" for hikers who are used to this type of terrain, and especially if the fog comes creeping along...
Kvitenuten (Norge 1:50,000: 1467m, Økonomisk Kartverk: -, UTM 32 V 373294 6637908) has a primary factor of 157m towards the higher parent Setenuten (1488m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 372652 6639307) is found near Høse. Ref. Norge 1:50,000 (20m contours), the saddle is within the range 1300-1320, interpolated to 1310m.

The route description is valid per July
Route 1: Røldalsfjellet - Kvitenuten (summer/autumn)
(all distances are approx. distances)
The starting point for this route description is the place Odda. Follow highway E134 in the direction of Oslo. Immediately after exiting Røldalstunnelen (tunnel), turn left towards Røldalsfjellet (signposted). Follow the old road across Røldalsfjellet for 4,7km (in the direction of Odda) and find parking (N59.84774 E6.72139) by Eskjeflota, on the right-hand side of the road.
At first glance, there are steep cliffs everywhere. But there is a ledge (170 meters above you) heading northwest that will grant you easy access to the upper part of the mountain. Above this ledge, you will have to negotiate a number of smaller ledges (terraces) before the terrain levels out above 1400 meters. The general direction from the trailhead is northwest. The summit (N59.85932 E6.73768) is marked by a small cairn.
