Introduction

Kjeldeknatten is located on Tonsåsen and is the home of a huge TV and radio tower - distributing signals to the Valdres region for many years. A mountain service road runs all the way to the top, but a gate prohibits public car traffic the last 1,5km.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The starting point for this route description is Tonsåsen near highway RV33 between Aurdal (Valdres) and Dokka. At Tonsåsen, turn south onto the road towards Bagn. After 3,4km, turn left onto a gravel road. This road soon becomes a toll road. The fee is NOK 20,- for passenger cars.

After 1,6km, you reach Mørkedalstjernet. Consider parking here and walk the remaining 2km on foot. Or drive 2,1km and find parking near the gate that prohibits public traffic to drive all the way to the tower.

The route

Dependent on where you park, follow the road all the way to the tower. Be creative if you get bored. Upon our visit, we thought the high point was found 50 meters east of the tower, but Økonomisk Kartverk says that there are two high points (889,7m) 100-150 meters northeast of the tower. The below picture was taken 50 meters east of the tower, and represents point 888,3m. None of these points are marked by a cairn.

From the top, you can see Himalaya. No, not the famous mountain range, but a cool forest top a bit further north...
