Introduction

Holmanuten is one of the southernmost tops in Odda (municipality) and offers a first class view towards Røldal and Røldalsvatnet (see picture below). From the top, you see Folgefonna, the southern Hardangervidda tops, the tops between Saudafjorden and Åkrafjorden, as well as most of the high Rogaland tops (Skaulen, Snønuten, Kyrkjenuten - to name a few). Breifonn dominates the view to the east.

There is no public path to Holmanuten - only up to the antenna above Ekkjeskartjørna (along the road between Røldal and Sauda). From the antenna, you will have to find a way down into Lammabekkdalen. From here, the terrain up to Holmanuten is fairly easy, although you'll have to look for the best route on the upper part of the mountain. See below for a more detailed description of the route.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

The starting point for this route description is the place Odda. Follow highway E134 in the direction of Oslo. 2,4km after you leave Røldalstunnelen (tunnel), turn right towards Sauda (signposted - N59.81446 E6.75621). Drive this road 4,9km up to Ekkjeskartjørna, where you can find parking for one or two cars (N59.77825 E6.75162).

Locate a path by the north drain of Ekkjeskartjørna (signposted "Utsiktspunkt"). Follow this path east (steeply) up to a mast/antenna at approx. 940 meters (N59.77847 E6.75602). From here, you have a good view towards Holmanuten's south ridge - your ascent route.

Next, you have to descend into Lammabekkdalen - a small valley between the mast and Holmanuten. The descent can be quite steep unless you actively search for a good route. The route up to Holmanuten runs through "all sorts of terrain", but is altogether fairly easy. The ridge gets steeper closer to the top, and you'll have to search for the best route here. There is no cairn on Holmanuten summit (N59.76032 E6.74587)
