Gullfjellet traverse, Feb 22 2003

Back to the main Gullfjellstoppen page

While Troll was confined to the house, due to his back injury, I decided to go for a quick hike to Gullfjellstoppen. It's a short drive, and a fast hike. The weather was astounding. I grabbed the ice axe in order to take the fast path straight up Kinndalsnipa and up Gullfjellhalsen near Glamragjelet. But in Kinndalen, I realized that the shortcuts required crampons, and I had to take the long way around Gullfjellhalsen's north side, in order to safely gain the ridge. I left the car at 11:10AM and reached the summit 12:50PM. After a round of pictures, I headed down towards Redningshytten. This route had considerably deeper snow, and I felt some envy towards the skiers that came up the mountain. Still, I reached the car 14:20PM, completing the traverse in 3 hours, 10 minutes. Quite good for a winter hike.
