Introduction

These forest tops are located just southeast of the city of Bergen, and just south of Lake Grimevatnet. Dyngelandsåsen and Hånuken/Furekampane seem mostly to be visited by the locals, but also receive visitors from the Fana region. None of these tops will be your destination if you look for great panoramas, but they can offer a pleasant stroll in the forest.

Primary factor:

Dyngelandsåsen

Dyngelandsåsen (Norge 1:50,000 (old version): 196m, Økonomisk Kartverk: Highest contour is 195m, UTM 32 V 300326 6693134 or 32 V 300328 6693124 - two points, 10m apart) has a primary factor of 116m towards the higher parent mountain Furekampane (234m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 301073 6693355) is found halfway between Lakes Dyngelandsvatnet and Grimevatnet. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours) is very confusing and can't be used as a source. A combination of the 1:50,000 contours and personal GPS readings resulted in a saddle elevation of 80m.

Furekampane

Furekampane (Norge 1:50,000 -, Økonomisk Kartverk: Highest contour is 230m, UTM 32 V 301563 6693851 ) has a primary factor of 106m towards the higher parent mountain Flåfjellet (418m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 301792 6693614) is found just south of Lake Langavatnet. Ref. Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the contours 125-130m, interpolated to 128m. Note that the ØK contours can be confusing here as well.

Hånuken - the south top on this ridge has a height of 232m on the former Norgesglasset 1:50,000 map. As the GPS indicated that the Furekampane high point is a few meters higher, the height has been set to 234m - still in line with the ØK contours.

It should be stated that the GPS accuracy in the forest is not very reliable. The elevations has been defined through a best estimate effort.

From Bergen, follow highway 580 from Midttun towards Indre Arna. 2,2Km after passing the roundabout at Midttun, turn right, cross a railroad track and follow the road towards Dyngeland 1,2Km. Find parking at a turn-out on your left-hand side, just next to a small hill (Høgsomhaugen).

Alternatively from the Midttun roundabout, drive east/southeast 1,2Km and turn left where the road to Totland turns right. Then drive 1,8Km up the valley to the parking mentioned above.

The route

From the parking, follow the road southwest 700m and turn right onto a narrow gravel road at the north side of Lake Dyngelandsvatnet. This road curves 350m up to a house. A forest road continues to the right of this house and crosses the powerline at 110m elevation. The forest road soon ends and you have to search actively for a path upwards. Should you give up on the path, just head upwards (to your left) and you will eventually top out on Dyngelandsåsen's highest point.

This point has two rocks which seem equally high. In addition, you'll find a small building and an antenna. Descend your ascent route, or take an off-trail short-cut back down.

The trails described below are not necessarily the *easiest* trails to this mountain.

Route 2: Dyngeland - Hånuken - Furekampane (all seasons)

Same as for Dyngelandsåsen above.

The route

From the parking, follow the road southwest 350m and turn left onto a forest road. After 200m, turn left and leave the road (alternatively continue and see if you can find a path up to the ridge ahead of you).

Head up a small valley and find a route up among steeper and steeper cliffs. Finding the right way up is of essence, and the scrambling will be quite moderate. On the ridge, seek east to avoid the juniper jungle and locate the ridge path.

Hånuken (232m, UTM 32 V 301295 6693317) is the only place where you will have some views. Proceed northbound on the forest path. Descend slightly before the path climbs up the Furekampane ridge. You'll pass a distinct high point before you reach the highest at UTM 32 V 301563 6693851. This point is unmarked (of course).

Descend your ascent route, or try your luck finding a good route directly down the south end of Lake Grimevatnet, where you can follow a road back to your trail head. A tip would be to head slightly (1 min of walking) south the way you came before descending. If you go too far to the south, you'll run into some nasty cliffs. Aim for the south end of the lake, and you should be able to find a good route.
