Introduction

Aurenakken is located just above the village of Sykkylven. A number paths run to the top, both from Ramstaddalen and  Vikedalen. In addition, a forest road runs (almost) all the way to the top. Thus, you can bike up to this top.

The view from the high point isn't overwhelming as trees are in the way. There is however a fine viewpoint 100m SW of the high point, where you'll have good views towards Sykkylvsfjorden, Skopphornet and adjacent mountains.

This web page describes a round trip that ascends on forest path up from Ramstaddalen and descends on the forest road, which will take you fairly close to your starting point.

Primary factor:

Aurenakken (Norge 1:50,000: 404m, Økonomisk Kartverk.: Highest contour is 405m, optimistically interpolated to 407m, UTM 32 V 375668 6919307) has a primary factor of 94m towards the higher parent Fagrefjellet (466m). The defining saddle (approx. UTM 32 V 376625 6919005) is found between the two tops, close to where the power line crosses. Ref.  Økonomisk Kartverk (5m contours), the saddle is within the range 310-315m, interpolated to 310m.

Access

(all distances are approx. distances)

From Ålesund, follow highway E39 towards Bergen, and then highway RV60 (Stranda) to the Magerholm - Ørsneset ferry (towards Sykkylven). This ferry runs quite often; every 20 minutes in the busy hours of the day.

From Ørsneset, follow RV60 (Stranda) 2,9Km. You're now in the 1st roundabout in Sykkylven (marked "Sentrum"). Turn left and drive 40m, turn right into Storgata. Follow Storgata 300m, turn left and drive up a hill (Aurebakken). After 250m, on top of the hill, turn left onto Skogvegen. Follow this road 900m and locate the forest path just after a series of garages. There are no public parking. Find parking alongside the road.

Ascent:

The forest path follows a stream coming down from the col between Aurenakken and Smiskarnakken (to your left). Follow the yellow markers. The upper part of the forest is quite steep, but the path switches gently back and forth. Once you're above the denser forest, the direction of the route changes from south to southwest. Follow the yellow markers until you reach the forest road. The forest road doesn't run all the way to the top, but almost.

The high point is not marked, but you'll find a mailbox with a visitor register 40-50m to the west. You'll find a nice viewpoint 100m southwest of the high point.

Descent:

In short, follow the forest road all the way down. Once back on the main road, turn left (you'll see the Aurenakken trail sign hidden in a tree to your right) and follow the main road 200m. Turn left by a barn and follow a path which will (after 100m) bring you back to Skogvegen
